"Weevils in "luxury" chocolate nuts and fruit?"

A review of Walkers Chocolates by Maybelline written on Friday 1st of January 2016

Was given a large tin of Walkers Luxury Chocolate Nuts and Fruit. Great - good chocolate covered nuts are one of my favourite chocolates. Disappointment came fast. The chocolate was poor quality - only 24% cocoa content, and the nuts were not whole ones as illustrated on the tin, but random bits, like floor sweepings. It was impossible to tell from the initial taste as to what nuts I was meant to be eating. Worse was to come. I soon noticed that some of the chocolates had a horrible, chemical like taste, like they'd been dipped in something. So I went on Google and found a report of someone finding that their Walkers chocolate covered nuts had entry holes all over as if attacked by weevils or similar. Now I don't normally feel the need to examine chocolates before I eat them. I just pop them into my mouth and wait for the pleasant taste experience to materialise. It never materialised with Walkers. They either tasted of sickly, cheap chocolate, or some unpleasant chemical. I looked more closely at the remaining chocolates and could clearly see that "something", had been eating and burrowing into the chocolates before me. Obviously I cannot confirm at this stage that it was weevils - I shall wait to see the report from Trading Standards.

I rang Customer Services at Walkers and they are getting back to me next week when they have come up their sanitised version of how this could have happened.

I shall await both reports with interest..
