After thirty five years of living away from Birmingham, you can imagine my incredulous feelings of how Ward End had changed since my wonderful childhood!! All the old bastions of our culture had been eliminated. On finding that The Barley Mow hadn't been turned into an Indian takeaway, I ventured to my old stomping ground. The friendly welcome was wonderful, (I didn't know anyone from the past). But staff and customers treated me as if I'd never been away, truly part of old Brum!! I cannot praise The Barley enough. Definitely an oasis in a desert, if you can remember Brum when it used to be in England !!!.
