"Victorian Scales Poole & Sons"

I have some victorian scales by Poole & Sons, It stands about 2ft 6" high with a central columb in white enamel, Brass base, Brass balance (stamped) and fittings, the balance finger operates inside the top enameled casting.

The top decorative casting also has the central fulcrum. The balance ends are brass hinge pin frames, very solid that hold the weight pan - Brass that is held with three shaped connected wires, and the load plate, in this case glased earthenware white,- so I guess these scales were used for food. So well built and attractive to look at.

I was quite supprised to see the Firm still going, with scoops, all in one cast so as not to hold germs. I would date these as Victorian 1890s but I guess Poole and Sons could be more accurate. .
